Dr Joseph Dodds offers psychotherapy for a wide range of psychological problems such as depression, stress, anxiety, eating disorders, phobias, relationship issues, obsessive compulsive disorder, trauma, personality disorders, feelings of inner emptiness, life dissatisfaction, and just plain unhappiness. Getting help when you need it can be a difficult and stressful task at the best of times and even more so during the global pandemic.

Psychological problems are more common than many people think and seeking help is not a sign of weakness, but the first step towards recovery and growth. Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic psychotherapy are exploratory psychotherapies ideal for those interested not only in symptom reduction but who also want to better understand their emotions and relationships, discover deeper aspects of themselves, and open up new more creative and fulfilling ways of being and living. All sessions are conducted in English.

Various courses are also offered for individuals and groups.

Appointments take place either online via Zoom or Whatsapp, or in person in Prague.

Dr Joseph Dodds, PhD

Dr Joseph Dodds is a Psychoanalyst and Training Analyst with the Czech Psychoanalytical Society, International Psychoanalytical Association, and the College of Psychoanalysts UK; a Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol) and Associate Fellow (AFBPsS) of the British Psychological Society; a registered Individual Practitioner with the UK Employee Assistance Professionals Association (EAPA), and a Registered Clinical Psychotherapist with the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), the Czech Association for Psychotherapy (EAP), the Slovak Society for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (EFPP), and the Hallam Institute for Psychotherapy, and a psychologist with the Czech-Moravian Psychological Society (ČMPS). Dr Dodds is a Chartered Scientist (CSci) with the Science Council UK and a senior lecturer in psychology and psychoanalysis at the Anglo-American University, the University of New York in Prague, and the Centre for Leadership and Affective Neuroscience (C-LAN). He also offers courses, workshops, and trainings at the Prague Centre for Psychoanalytic Studies.

After completing a BSc in Psychology and Neuroscience in 1999 from Manchester University, in 2002 he earned a distinction in his MA in Psychoanalytic Studies at Sheffield University’s School of Health and Related Research, where he subsequently completed an MPhil in Psychoanalysis in 2010. He graduated with a PhD from the University of Bolton in 2013 and qualified as a psychoanalyst in 2016 with the Czech Psychoanalyitcal Society (IPA). Dr Dodds has completed numerous postgraduate clinical psychotherapy and counselling qualifications including Diplomas in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and in Addiction Counselling from the University of West of Scotland/Institute of Counselling. He has previously worked at the Ellern Mede Centre for Young People With Eating Disorders in London, at Charles University in Prague, the Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies in New York, and at Terapie.Info in Prague.

Joseph Dodds has two decades of experience working with a variety of disorders, drawing on a range of psychological and psychotherapeutic approaches. He is an active member of various professional and scientific organisations and societies and his current research interests include the increasingly productive dialogue between psychoanalysis and the neurosciences, as well as the application of psychological and psychoanalytic insight into the domains of culture, society, art, film and ecology.
